Former Republican congressman Frank Bennett says he would like to serve as President, but the Republican Party’s current occupant is far more qualified to do it than he is.
Bennett, who served in the House from 2003 to 2007, told MSNBC on Friday that he would be open to running for the Republican presidential nomination in 2020.
Bettman said he would not run for the nomination because he thinks that the party has lost its way.
But he added that he thinks a Democrat would be better suited to lead the party.
“I think a lot of people are really, really, not paying attention to this,” Bennett said.
“I think there’s a lot that needs to be fixed in the party, and I think a Democrat is the right person to do that.”
And that’s really, honestly, the best way for me to do the job,” Bennett added.
